Teacher POLICY
General
Please arrive at least 10-15 minutes prior to the start of the lesson.
Preparation of the lesson/class room before the lesson/class is mandatory. Please organise lesson materials and equipment before the students (and their parents) arrive.
- If you are arriving late to the lesson, please contact the administrator to be able to inform your students.
- Keep the room clean and tidy during your lessons, and clean up after you have finished using the room.
- The last staff member to leave the school is responsible for locking up the premises. You must close the curtains, windows, turn off the lights and lock the front doors. If you are unsure about being the last staff member on site, please check with the administrator.
- Some teachers may have access to the keys and access codes of the school doors. Please keep these safe and confidential. Lost keys will be replaced by the person who lost it, including consequential expenses.
Attendance forms
Keep attendance forms legible and updated.
Make sure every lesson form has the date, time, duration and the signatures of both the teacher and the student. Failure to do so may lead to a delay in the distribution and payment of your working hours.
Always check that your online calendar is the same as the your attendance forms. This is done to ensure the accuracy of working hours to the payroll.
Attendance sheets must be filled in with black or blue pens. Do not use pencils or coloured pens/pencils.
Please use legible writing.
Please return attendance forms/folders to the reception after your lessons.
Only lessons that have taken place with authorisation from the administrators/management may be filled in on the attendance forms, and will be counted towards your working hours. If you are unsure about a certain lesson please contact the administrator for confirmation.
dress code
Teachers are required to dress in professional manner.
Items of clothing with offensive or inappropriate slogans, words, or material are not allowed.
- Keep fingernails clean. Nail polish is allowed, but please keep them tidy at all times
Parking
At Remuera Music Academy, car parking on marked dentist parking spaces are only permitted after 4:30pm on the weekdays. There are on-street parking available around the block.
Albany School of Music/Remuera Music Academy will not be responsible for any vehicle towing or parking fines. Please take note of all parking rules around the area.
Car parking on school premises is only permitted during the teachers' working hours.
Books
Resource books and teaching materials are available to be borrowed by teachers during lessons on premises. When borrowing, please let the administrator know and return it at reception with you are finished using it.
Be mindful of the copying rules and take note of the copying allowance of each book.
Resource books do not leave the premises. Teachers and students are able to order and purchase new books at reception of on our online book order form.
Student Attendance
The school can only guarantee lesson bookings and payment if the student has confirmed the lesson schedule and have made term fee payments in advance.
If the student has booked for casual lessons without advanced payment, then set weekly lesson times can not be guaranteed for the teacher.
Students are expected to be punctual for all lessons. If a student is late, the teacher does not have to extend the lesson duration to accommodate for student tardiness.
If you agree or organise to extend the student's lesson time or make-up lesson without the authorisation of administration/management, it may cause issues and delays with your payroll.
Students that have failed to attend their planned lesson time without notification or reason will not be guaranteed a make-up lesson. Teachers that have shown up and prepared for the scheduled lesson will still be paid for their working time.
Teacher Absences
School administration will have to be informed of any teacher absences at least 24 hours or as soon as possible prior to their lessons.
Leave applications are available to filled in online or please to speak to the School Manager/Human Resources if you wish to discuss it and fill out the application in person.
There is a three-strike policy with unreasonable teacher tardiness and absences within a year. If you are having problems with scheduling or other personal issues, please speak to our School Manager/Human Resources so we can can work together to help you fulfill your employment commitments.
Teachers are not permitted to cancel lessons by themselves. The teacher must inform the school administration before cancelling the lesson and administrators will get in contact with students to let them know about the lesson cancellations.
If a teacher fails to attend and take a lesson that they were aware of without warning, that teacher is required to give the student a free lesson. The teacher will not be paid for that free lesson.
