The Chiron Charitable Trust (CCT), established in 2019 to encourage and support talented music students, offers scholarships and awards to deserving musicians serious about and committed to their musical education.

By applying for a CCT Young Artist Award, each applicant agrees that they have read, and understood, and agreed to be bound by all of these Regulations.

  • Purpose: Funding towards formal educational study costs at a Chiron-approved school, institution or teachers

  • Term: 12 months (from 27 July 2020); renewable one time

  • Value: Up to NZ$20,000 each

  • Quantity: Up to 2 Young Artist Awards will be awarded annually

  • Eligibility: Any age up to 24 years; any orchestral instrument, piano or voice available to New Zealand citizens or permanent residents only

  • Deadline for entry: 20 April 2020

The application materials include:

  • A completed application form (available from website)

  • CV

  • Letter of recommendation from your primary music teacher

  • Audition

  • Awards are made by the board of the Chiron Charitable Trust upon the recommendations of the Chiron Selection Committee.

Regulations:

  1. Up to 2 (two) Chiron Charitable Young Artist Awards (up to the value of NZ$20,000 each to be used towards tuition costs at a Chiron-approved school, institution or teachers) are awarded annually for a term of 12 months (renewable one time).

  2. Young Artist Awards are awarded to students that show exceptional musical talent, future potential for musical excellence, commitment their musical and academic education, and are of excellent character.

  3. The Young Artist Award is paid in one instalment.

  4. The Young Artist Award may be held concurrently with any other scholarship, award or grant provided to the student provided this is disclosed and discussed with the board of the Chiron Charitable Trust prior to application. No permission will be withheld unreasonably.

  5. The awarding of Young Artist Awards (value and quantity) is at the sole discretion of the Chiton Charitable Trust.

  6. All decisions made by the Chiron Charitable Trust are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

  7. The Chiron Charitable Trust has the power to amend or vary these Regulations at any time, provided there is no significant departure from their purpose.

  8. No Award may be transferred, exchanged, or redeemed for cash, credit or otherwise.

  9. Any expenses and taxes related to the Award are the sole responsibility of the recipient.

  10. If the Young Artist Award winner does not claim the award by 1 November, and provide all necessary documentation or materials upon request, then CCT may withdraw the award.

  11. Award winners must fulfil all subsequent performance obligations bestowed with the Award. Young Artist Award recipients are expected to perform, free of charge, in up to 4 (four) performances over the term of the Award to promote and celebrate the CCT. If the Artist is studying overseas, he or she is expected to perform at least one concert in New Zealand for each year the Award is provided.

  12. Award winners agree that their image can be used by CCT and other Chiron Group organisations for promotional purposes.

  13. Award recipients agree to be available for and provide media interviews, photographs and other promotional activities as requested by CCT and must not contact the media in relation to CCT or its associate organisations without the prior written approval of CCT.

  14. If an Award recipient breaches any of these Regulations, CCT may withdraw the scholarship.

  15. These Regulations shall be governed by New Zealand law and the courts of New Zealand shall have non-exclusive jurisdiction to hear and determine all issues and disputes that may arise in relation to these Regulations.
